If you’re searching for the perfect spot for a hearty Sunday roast, look no further than the café at Croots Farm Shop. Set in the Derbyshire countryside just outside of Duffield, this café offers a cosy and charming atmosphere. It even has views of Shire horses grazing in the surrounding fields. Recently, I had the pleasure of enjoying one of the best Sunday roasts there that I’ve had in a long time—and I’ll certainly be back for more.
Roast beef dinner
Firstly, the highlight of my meal was the roast beef, which was cooked to perfection. The beef was incredibly tender, practically melting in the mouth with every bite. Furthermore, it was accompanied by a generous array of delicious sides. These included crispy roast potatoes, creamy mashed potatoes, and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding.
To top it off, we were served an indulgent cauliflower cheese, alongside a selection of seasonal greens and sweet, perfectly cooked carrots. What really made the experience stand out was the addition of a caramelised onion and the all-important extra gravy boat. Often, extra gravy is something you have to ask for, but here it was thoughtfully provided. I felt that this was an unexpected but welcome touch that made the meal even more enjoyable.
Other menu options
While the Sunday roast is the perfect way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon, Croots Farm Shop Café also has plenty to offer throughout the week. Their menu is varied, with options for breakfast, lunch, and a tempting selection of cakes and coffee. They also cater to dietary needs offering options for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan. I’m already planning my return, not just for another roast but also to try their breakfast menu and coffee and cake selection.
The farm shop
What makes Croots Farm Shop Café truly special is the surrounding experience. Before or after your meal, it’s well worth taking the time to explore the farm shop. Brimming with local produce and artisanal products, the shop offers a fantastic range of goods to take home. There’s also a butcher’s counter featuring locally sourced meats, perfect if you want to recreate your own roast dinner at home.
The farm shop and café are set on a beautiful countryside estate, making it a great destination for a lovely afternoon out. After indulging in your meal, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll around the grounds or venture on one of the nearby walking routes. With free car parking on site, it’s incredibly convenient too.
Next time you’re in the area, make sure to pop in—you won’t be disappointed!
